EXPLORING SELF-WORTH

Definition: Self-worth is the sense of one's own value or worth as a person. It's a state of being defined by unconditional self-acceptance, self-respect, self-understanding and self-love. As the word implies, it should be driven by internal factors (self) and not by external factors (such as what others THINK AND SAY about us or when we COMPARE our lives to those of others).


EVERYONE struggles with self-worth to some extent in their lives (personal and/or career). The difference from one person to the next is how much AWARENESS they have about the impact of self-worth on their overall happiness and success in life and their READINESS to do something about it.


REFLECTION TIME: Do any of these statements resonate with you?

  • I feel the need to JUSTIFY myself (what I say or do) to others.

  • I often WORRY about my ability to get through life's challenges.

  • I find it difficult to SET BOUNDARIES to protect my time, health or to honor what I personally want in life.

  • I JUDGE myself harshly when I make mistakes.

  • I DOUBT my abilities and am often afraid to try new things or reach for goals I'd like to achieve for fear of failure.


These are just a few examples of how LACK OF SELF-WORTH can reveal itself in your life.
